I don't even know where to begin with this one. So incredibly excited for this game. If you haven't seen this yet, do so, whether you think you're interested in Guild Wars 2 or not.

I was going to reserve judgment after checking out their playable demonstration that will be at PAX this year, but I'm finding myself gravitating towards the game, too. I didn't play the original and heard first-hand reports from friends that it was a cumbersome, lackluster game. Conceptually, I like how this one is coming out. We'll see!

I'd read through their written design manifesto and the articles written both in the blog and on the site. I'm sure the Gamescom demo will do a decent job of showcasing basic game play, but the appeal of it runs a lot deeper than I think it will really be able to get across. A lot of it has to do simply with their attitude toward virtual worlds, what's currently wrong with them, and how to fix it.

As far as the first one goes, Guild Wars 2 is a very different game. Check out the articles the developers have written on it if you want to see why. It's way too much to go into here.

Yah I poked around the main site. The video you posted I think does a good job of pointing out how they want to differentiate themselves from other MMO's and their approach to designing the world.

Like I said, we'll see :) Still some time before release for me to make up my mind. (It's hard to get excited about a game unless I know what I'm playing - and the 3 professions released, while expected and basic, are not what I'd want to play primarily). But seeing as Will refuses to pay to play any game, regardless of what it is, Guild Wars 2 looks like a solid option in the entire MMO category.
